I don’t actually like the connotation the word ‘resolution’ has because I associate it with goals of losing weight and writing that book that I never actually accomplish.
For the past 2 years, I still call my resolutions “resolutions,” the difference is I give it a vague weight. They’re not goals so much as they’re areas I’d like to focus on more for the new year.
So let’s begin!
Health
My health hasn’t been up to par after being a college student who’d pull late night studying sessions and ate whatever I wanted. By the time I graduated and moved home, my circadian rhythm was not normal. I did a bit of emotional eating. And the time I wasn’t working made me more nocturnal, which inspired the premise for this blog.
With that being said, I want to have a more consistent sleep cycle. I plan to scale back on sweets and seek healthier foods to curb my sweet tooth. I plan to walk or go for a jog at least twice a week. I need to stretch more; I’ve always wanted to become more flexible.
Career
Obviously the most pressing thing on my mind after my body taking a hit from everything is getting my work life together. The plan is to find work until the amusement park is back in season.
A step further would be to explore the world of public relations in my community. Learn skills that would make me a more valuable hire, regardless of the field.
I plan to take the GRE this spring, in case I do work up the gall to attend graduate school. I’ve also looked into taking classes at a technical college. Keeping all options open, looking around for what works best. Which brings me to my final area.
Explore/Research
I wasn’t sure how to label this area I wanted to focus on, because it’s multiple things for a similar purpose.
I plan to travel more in 2020. I’ve been wanting to take a day trip to the mountains for a while. There are horror conventions in the area that are interesting. Vegan restaurants to try. I just want to see what’s out there. Cultivating a local wanderlust will boost my confidence enough to step outside of my comfort zone in other areas of my life.
As for research, I have this hunger to learn more in 2020. I plan to read one book for each month of the year. I’ve signed up with SkillShare, this online classroom site where people teach skills from photography to marketing. (Not a promotion). There are a lot of topics I would like to know more about, and I hope to write about them here.
Research and exploration can also help get my work life together and maybe improve my health. You can’t be that busy with a poor immune system and sleep cycle. Especially if I’m planning to go to conventions and hike in the mountains.
With that being said, the areas I want to focus on in 2020. I’m sharing this on KMUAN as a means of holding myself to these goals. I may not be able to hold myself accountable, but with people on the internet watching me make these promises, perhaps I’ll achieve my dreams in the name of clout. I’m half-joking.
But seriously though, hold me accountable. Or not. I don’t care. It’s on the internet now. I have to do it.
What are your New Year Resolutions and why do you have them? What motivates you do do them?
Good night!
