Sometimes I’m stuck between talking about topics that interest me & events currently happening.
Because I swear every week of 2024 is competing to be the biggest historical event. You know when adults said they felt like we were gonna make history, I was thinking 1st female president or officially equal pay across genders. Not *gestures* all of this.
I’m not sure what I’m doing. If you do have a topic you want to read or listen to me talk about, you can email me at kmuanblog@gmail.com or DM me on Instagram: kmuanblog.
In the meantime, I’ll hop-scotch around tonight.
James Earl Jones, Frankie Beverly, & Tito Jackson
My interpretation of things I see for a 0.5 seconds on Twitter is the black community is ready for September to wrap things up.
You mean to tell me James Earl Jones, voice of Mufasa & Darth Vader, King of Zamunda?? Music legend Frankie Beverly, AND TITO JACKSON are gone?!
I’m kind of on Hee-Hee twitter & people did NOT expect this to happen! It’s so sad to think about.
A few people mentioned this on Twitter, but if Tito Jackson hadn’t disobeyed their father & played his guitar, the Jackson Five wouldn’t have been formed.
Meaning Michael Jackson wouldn’t have been made the lead singer. And they would’ve have become super famous & successful. And MJ wouldn’t have made an album in 1982. Meaning Thriller wouldn’ve have been the best-selling album of all time & you know the rest.
Tito Jackson was the butterfly effect. Him playing with his father’s guitar was a Canon Event.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of Frankie Beverly & Tito Jackson.
Except James Earl Jones. Mans hated black women.
Palestinians in Gaza are suffering 11 months later
Idk about everyone else’s timeline on Twitter (I refuse to call it X), but it’s been nothing but fundraisers & GoFundMe’s asking for help to evacuate and seek urgent medical assistance.
A lot of them have many shares but the progress doesn’t match the engagement they get. Same goes for TikTok.
It is so dystopian that Palestinians trapped in a 1 mile-long area, vulnerable to bombing strikes, starving, and living in abysmal ten conditions.
And they have to come onto this apps and hop onto trends to create enough engagement to save their families. Many on Twitter joined the Hatsune Miku trend, which was cool to watch in real time.
But it’s heartbreaking to watch too. It’s scary knowing the people I’ve spoken to online are hungry and in danger at all times.
Help Loza Poi raise funds to celebrate her child’s birthday Sept 27th
A mother of 2 children reached out to me on TikTok. I DM’d with her. She asked me to help raise enough money to gift one of her children a toy for their birthday (Sept 27th).
The toy is expensive because in Gaza basic necessities have skyrocketed in price. Her asking me to help to create a special birthday for one of her children — is such a sweet & selfless request.
So I agreed to help by posting videos on my personal TikTok. And I’d thought people who read Keeps Me Up At Night are people who care that Palestinians in Gaza are being subjected to genocide.
Here is the GoFundMe for user loza poi. If you could donate any amount in your currency — 1, 5, 10, 15 — any amount would mean the world to us. Hopeful, we’ll make enough to surprise her child soon.
#SaveMarcellus
The state of Missouri (USA) has scheduled to execute Marcellus Williams on Sept 24 for a crime he did not commit. Despite the fact that DNA evidence was introduced to the court proving his innocence, Judge Bruce Hilton of the Missouri Supreme Court, St. Louis County denied the request to vacate Williams’ conviction and death sentence.
The Midwest Innocence Project and Missourians to Abolish the Death Penalty have been campaigning to convince Gov. Parsons to stop Marcellus’ execution.
You can go to savemarcellus.org to call the office of Gov. Parsons (Mon-Fri 8a.m.-5p.m.), email his office or tag him in a tweet. The site page includes a call script. You don’t have to be a U.S. citizen to call in.
There’s a petition for him as well here.
Share the petitions, share the tweets, call the governor, and email the governor. We’ve got 48 hours to stop this.
And it’s more dire knowing that —
South Carolina just executed their 1st person in 13 years despite evidence of their innocence
Khalil Divine Black Sun Allah formerly known as Freddie Owens, 46, was killed via lethal injection, as reported by The Guardian. (Who cited the Associated Press).
Allah was convicted for a crime in November 1997 — the armed robbery & murder of convenience stores cashier Irene Graves. Surveillance footage showed 2 masked men, unidentifiable men.
Steven Golden was convicted of robbery & murder in a joint case with Allah. He pleaded guilty & agreed to testify against Allah.
The Wednesday before the scheduled execution, Golden signed an affidavit stating Allah isn’t the person who shot Graves. He concealed the true shooter’s identity for fear of being killed.
That same week Allah’s lawyers filed emergency motions to delay the execution. They cited Golden’s new testimony saying he’s been wrongfully convicted.
However, SC governor McMaster announced that he wouldn’t be granted clemency right before the execution.
IMO
There’s nothing I can say that’d be as profound or informed as many abolition & prison activists & academics would say.
Black American men are being killed in a judicial system designed to deny them justice & due process. If you can post, share, tweet & call, it’s better than nothing.
And Palestinians are being killed in Gaza, the West Bank & southern Lebanon because the U.S. supports a genocide waged by the illegitimate settler colony Isnotreal.
Both issues are tied by the U.S involvement and support of violence against black and brown people. And the past 4 years have made it more obvious.
That’s enough of my soap box. The past year has been just crazy & I feel insane keeping it inside.
Good night, y’all.
